Overview

symplr is a leading healthcare operations SaaS provider serving the majority of US hospitals and health systems. Our global tax function is lean, high-visibility, and directly connected to the CFO's office. We are hiring a Senior Tax Analyst, US Tax in India to serve as the operational backbone of symplr's US tax function.

The role owns tax notice and controversy resolution end to end — receiving, triaging, researching, and resolving federal, state, and local tax notices across a multi-state footprint — and provides hands-on support across US compliance, ASC 740 provision, tax accounting, and process infrastructure.

You will work directly with the Global Tax Director. The right person will have real judgment, will chase issues to closure without being managed, and will write to a standard that can go to a state Department of Revenue without editing.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Tax Notice & Controversy Resolution — 35%
  • Own the centralized notice tracker end to end: intake, logging, triage, aging, response, resolution, and closure documentation.
  • Engage directly with state Department of Revenue and Secretary of State representatives by phone, portal, and correspondence to resolve open items
    1. US Federal & Multi-State Compliance Support — 25%
    • Prepare workpapers and PBC packages supporting federal and multi-state income and franchise returns prepared by external advisors; respond to advisor open item lists.
    • Support sales & use tax: data preparation and validation, filing review, exemption certificate management, taxability documentation for SaaS revenue, and nexus monitoring.
    • Prepare and track extensions, estimated payments, and payment confirmations.
    • Manage annual reports, business licenses, property tax renditions, and Secretary of State filings.
    1. Tax Provision & Tax Accounting — 25%
    • Assist external advisors and the director with annual ASC 740 tax provision workpapers
    • Prepare and maintain tax account reconciliations, journal entries, and payable rollforwards.
    • Support external audit and advisor requests with organized, referenced workpaper packages.
    • Maintain cash tax payment tracking and provide inputs to cash tax forecasting.
    1. International, Intercompany Support & Process Infrastructure — 15%
    • Support intercompany invoicing, recharge documentation, and transfer pricing files across US, UK, Canada, India, and Netherlands entities.
    • Track the non-US compliance calendar and coordinate with local advisors on filing status.
    • Identify and implement automation and process improvements to reduce manual effort.

Skills Required

  • Required Skills and Qualifications:

    1. 5+ years of USA tax experience, gained in a Big 4 US tax delivery center (EY GDS, Deloitte USI, PwC AC, KPMG GDC), a US tax outsourcing or shared services organization (Ryan, RSM, BDO, Grant Thornton INDUS, Vialto, or similar), or a US-headquartered captive/GCC tax team.
    2. Demonstrable hands-on notice resolution experience — candidates must be able to describe specific notices they personally researched, drafted responses to, and drove to closure, including the agencies involved.
    3. Multi-state US experience, including income/franchise and sales & use.
    4. Strong US federal and state compliance fundamentals: apportionment, state modifications, nexus concepts, filing methods (separate, combined, unitary).
    5. Advanced Excel: pivot tables, SUMIFS/XLOOKUP, large-volume data reconciliation, structured workpaper design.
    6. Written business English at professional correspondence standard. Written work product will go directly to US tax authorities and external advisors. This will be assessed through a written case study, not the interview alone.
    7. Ability to work the stated shift and to take scheduled calls with US tax authorities and internal stakeholders during US business hours.
    8. Ownership mindset: comfortable working with a single US-based manager across time zones, managing an independent workload, and escalating with a recommendation rather than a question.

      Desired Skills and Qualifications:

      • Credential: Chartered Accountant (ICAI), US CPA, or IRS Enrolled Agent.
      • ERP experience — NetSuite preferred
      • Sales tax automation platforms: Avalara or Vertex.
      • Tax compliance and provision software: OneSource, Corptax, GoSystem, or Longview.
      • ASC 740 provision experience under US GAAP.
      • Experience building a tax function or process from a low baseline, rather than operating within a mature one.

The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position. Incumbents will follow any other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
